I am soon-to-be-retiree from corporate America. As I was thinking about what I wanted to do when I retire, I chose aside-hustle that would generate a bit of income, provide traveling companions and provide us with a way to explore new countries and exotic places. So, in the Summer of 2023, Anthony and I started forming Great Journeys Travel LLC, and affiliated with the Travel Quest Network.
Many of you know that I have been a volunteer trip leader for the Sierra Club for 30 years now. I am still leading trips. What I have learned is how valuable it is when you can choose locally owned hotels and restaurants, local guides, and mom and pops businesses. I also prefer supporting sustainable businesses that endeavor to reduce waste, electricity and water use. I abhor reusable plastic bottles. (If you insist upon using them, find another group to travel with.)
We also wanted to provide discounts to our friends and family. Our clients become friends. Most people know that Travel Advisors and Agents do not make much money. We do it because it our passion and we like helping our clients experience the world.
Lastly, I wanted to do something to give back to the communities and places we visit. Examples include bringing school supplies to remote schools in Nepal, solar lights to villages in Africa without electricity, and planting trees in Costa Rica to sequester CO2. We dedicate 5% of our revenue (not just profit) to doing the right thing and giving back. It’s about being good world citizens. We also embody beliefs that all lives matter and the environment matters too.
Generally we help people book their vacations, family and group trips, and once-in-a-lifetime adventures. Choosing a destination, cruise or resort is a collaborative effort. Anthony has done hours of training offered by more than 20 different travel providers. So you have a knowledgeable team to help you arrange travel.
I have traveled to more that 30 countries across six continents, so I have a bit of travel experience. My opinions and thoughts are free, but designing and organizing custom trips is a lot of work and requires many hours. Please contact me for more details.
